February 2, 2022, 1:56pm
PGH partner Matt Glover recently filed a lawsuit in Pickens County, Alabama against an insurance company, one of the company’s employees, and a smoke and fire mitigation corporation. Matt’s clients are two homeowners whose house was destroyed by fire late last year. The complaint alleges that the house was destroyed and totaled by the fire. Because the insurance company denied that the home was totally destroyed and refused to pay the replacement cost of the structure, Matt filed suit. Matt’s clients (plaintiffs) were told by the insurance company to call the company’s preferred smoke and fire mitigation vendor. However, as the complaint sets out, that company did not exercise due care in the restoration process and returned all furniture and personal contents in a damaged state. Matt is suing the defendants for breach of contract, bad faith, fraudulent failure to pay a claim, negligence, wantonness, and negligent procurement of insurance. Matt has associated two other lawyers to assist in this case, Ted Colquett from Birmingham and Tim McCool from Carrollton. This is one of many bad faith cases Matt has handled. He has gained much experience and knowledge over the years and uses this experience and knowledge to navigate these type cases to a successful conclusion.
